Changing Your Discover Card’s Payment Due Date

due date

I found a neat little feature within the Discover Card online system that lets you change the payment due date.

How to Get to the Screen within the Discover Online System

Click on Customer Services and you will see “Change Your Payment Due Date” Under Account Services.

Why Changing Your Payment Due Date is Useful

While most of the dates are unavailable and thus it’s not as flexible as I would like, changing due dates are still useful because:

  1. Better align the payment date with your paycheck – Most of us have paychecks coming in every two weeks so if we can have the credit card payment due the day after we get a paycheck, wouldn’t that be great?
  2. Spread out your due dates to help with cash flow – If you always run out of cash, you may want to spread out all your credit cards so they aren’t due all at the same time. Having each one due on a separate day (better yet, on a separate week) gives you time to come up with the funds to pay off those expenses.
  3. Group all due dates on credit cards together so you can better remember them – On the other side of the spectrum, it’s much easier to remember the due dates if they are all due at the same time! If everything is due on the same day for example, the chances that you will forget them in next to none as you will eventually remember them all.

Disclaimer: I have a Discover Business Card and while I hate that so many merchants don’t accept it, I find many good little features as I get used to the card. This post highlights one of those features.
