Not many of us like cooking, but we all know that eating out is a great source of money leak. Even at $5 a day, it’s $20 a week and $80-$90 a month. Want an actual meal for $10 or 12? The number quickly goes up to $200 each month.
Then the question we want to know is: How do I like cooking so I can start my frugal life?
Easy. Be good at it. Being good is really the main reason why we like to do certain things. Once we feel we are talented, we will like it and become passionate about it, which will in turn allow us to become even better. However, in order to be good at cooking, you need to practice. Everyone starts off cooking food that tastes bad. It takes practice and patience. Stick to it.
Most of us who don’t cook wash dishes. Why? Because we want to divide up the work so one person cooks while the other cleans. Fair enough, but cooking is soooo much better. You are actually making something when you cook. You can make a mess and still have fun. Washing dishes? Not so much. Still don’t want to cook?
Bringing Your Lunch and Your Job Position
I remember my parents telling me that I should really eat out when I get to work because everyone else eats out. They were telling me how eating out is a good way to “socialize” with your coworkers.
When I asked my wife, she told me that all directors and above go out for lunch. She doesn’t even recall one time that any manager was in the lunchroom other than to get a cup of coffee.
While it’s true that going out to lunch is a great way to socialize, it’s not really the setting but the people that you social with. Start eating in and ask your coworkers (directors or not) to join you. You actually get more time to interact because you aren’t spending time thinking about what to eat and driving to the destination. A bonus is that you don’t have to talk over the loud noise in restaurants.
