Priceline.com knocked another $75 off my two night hotel stay in Las Vegas at already discounted prices. Here’s what happened.
I will be attending a conference in May and I was happy to hear that the conference had a “special conference only rate” at the Hilton for $95+taxes (at 9%) a night for the event. As someone who swears by discount travel sites, I searched around and got the following prices.
- Expedia – $85
- Hotels.com – $84.95
- Priceline – $59
As you can see, all the discount travel sites I found had better deals than the special pricing I was provided already. What’s even more amazing is that Priceline’s price is $59, $36 cheaper per night (taxes not included)! When all was set and done, my bill for the two nights came out to be $131.84 with priceline.com and $207.10 (approx. with 2 nights of $95 each + 9% taxes) if I went with the conference rate. The difference of $75.26 is huge for just two days of hotels!
When I looked into the details further to write this post, I found that my priceline booking had a full refund policy as long as I canceled 3 days or more prior to the event compared to a 14-day prior full refund policy at the conference rate! This just goes to show how incredible priceline is and why I continue to recommend it.
This gives me a huge advantage because I will be looking out for Expedia’s last minute deals in Las Vegas. If they happen to have some for the Hilton, I will cancel my registration with Priceline and get the better deal.
Another thing to note is that I did not use the Name Your Own Price Program this time as I wanted to stay at the Hilton for the convenience of a short walk to the convention. If I really wanted to bid for it, I will even get a cheaper price (I know for sure because I always use it and I get a better deal every time).

Thanks for the encouragement for me to get off my behind to look at sites like Priceline when I book my travels. I always just go to the official online sites (especially hotels) and never bother and this is a solid example of why I’ve been wasting so much money all this time!
I use Priceline all the time. They really are the best. Now don’t share this with everyone so the prices go up with more bids!
I use priceline all the time and I don’t know why people still go to those official hotel sites anymore. I mean, I like to always stay at Marriott and everything but is it worth $100 more a night for a comparable hotel via name your own price? I think not.
David: I think people don’t try to look for travel discount sites since they are either lazy or they aren’t using their own money (ie it’s a business trip). Where I used to work, it was apparent that some people just didn’t care. Of course, they were the first to be let go a few months ago when we had the layoffs too so people actually noticed these things.
